In a sunny room, Pacey holds Audrey up by the waist while she laughs and grabs his hand.

Season 5, Episode 19 “100 Light Years From Home”

By Nerdy Spice

So, this was the 100th episode of Dawson’s Creek. When it aired, I still wasn’t yet watching it in real time (it took me till the middle of season 6 to catch on, because I’m very very slow), but I was a major Gilmore Girls fan, and I remember how the WB was just covered in ads for this big event, which turns out to be surprisingly inconsequential: the main story is that the gang-minus-Dawson go to Florida for spring break. (On the other hand, M2M, the underrated gem of the early aughts, shows up and sings. That’s pretty awesome. I’d almost call it event TV.)

OK, fine, there is one thing of significance. Dawson and Joey have a Grand Good-bye! Oh wait… that happens so often that we have a shot for it. So never mind.

Ugh, Joey kisses Creeper again???? I knew that she kissed him once, but the subsequent makeouts were totally Eternal Sunshine’d out of my memory. Continue reading →

Professor Wilder, wearing a coat and tie, holds out his elbow and Joey holds it in her hand, wearing a winter jacket, scarf, and gloves. Both are looking at each other and smiling.

Season 5, Episode 13 “Something Wilder”

Well, this episode is named after Professor Creeper, so… I have concerns. And they are fully borne out by the events to come.

Season 5, Episode 10 “Appetite For Destruction”

Maybe I have fifth-season goggles on, but this is a great episode! Where actual things happen! The core group is all present, everyone talks about sex for the whole episode, and Pacey and Joey talk to each other several times. In seasons three or four, this would be par for for the course, but in season five, it’s a freaking unicorn! Continue reading →

Some students (three white - one of them is Joey and one black) sit around a coffee table with papers scattered everywhere. An older brunette man (Professor Wilder) stands at the side of the room, clasping his hands.

This seriously might be the most infuriating episode of Dawson’s Creek we’ve watched so far.

As is now our tradition, we came up with some new drinking game rules for season 5. We’re going to take a shot:

  • Every time Audrey is the MVP of a scene
  • Every time someone assumes that Audrey having sex means that she’s stupid
  • Every time Joey or Dawson says a Grand Goodbye to the other.
  • Every time Joey hates fun.
  • Every time people talk about Chad Michael Murray being hot.
  • Every time Chad Michael Murray pretends to be sensitive.
  • Every time Professor Creeper negs Joey.
  • Every time the characters blatantly rewrite history and/or forget that Pacey and Joey ever dated.

Season 4, Episode 19 “Late”

Good news, guys! In this episode we’re gonna get some realistic lessons about teenaged sexuality on Dawson’s Creek.

Just kidding. They’re just going to be regular old TV lessons: mixed accuracy and minimal realism.

Before we get to the episode, can we just talk about how amazing it is that this show centered an entire episode around senior superlatives? I know the writers are determined to include some sort of “classic” high school trope in every episode this season, but this is a seriously deep cut. Continue reading →

Season 4, Episode 13 “Hopeless”

By Nerdy Spice

Joey and Pacey are seen at middle distance through a window, their foreheads touching.

In an episode that embodies the classic, largely extinct phenomenon known as the “pre-February-sweeps filler episode,” Joey strikes a devil’s bargain with Mrs. Valentine to get time off for the senior trip. The sitch is that Pacey and Joey have to accompany Drue on his date with Anna Evans, the daughter of the head of the board, which Mrs. Valentine forced him to go on in order to further her social ascent or something. Mrs. Valentine lays out what we writers like to call “the stakes” in highly literal terms: “If she does [have a nice time], the days off are yours.” Little does she know how high the stakes actually are: no less than Joey Potter’s seemingly indestructible virginity is at stake. Buuut more on that from Janes later.
