Episode 22 “Joey Potter and the Capeside Redemption”

By Janes

Screen Shot 2018-12-07 at 11.33.58 AM

It’s the end of an era! This is our last recap, which means we’re coming up on one of the most tearjerking, weirdly perfect series finales of all time. But until then, we’ll be talking about this episode, which is–a valiant first try.

That’s right. This dumb, throwaway type of final-season episode, where Joey voiceovers at the beginning AND end, Joey and Dawson sleep in the same bed together without recreating that iconic shot from the pilot, and–most importantly–JOEY PULLS A KELLY TAYLOR AND CHOOSES HERSELF, was originally supposed to be the series finale. Under most circumstances, I’m all for women choosing themselves, but let’s be real–that would have been f*cking insane. Continue reading →

Exterior, night. Shot of Joey and Pacey sitting side by side on the doc, with Joey leaning her head on Pacey's shoulder and Pacey leaning his head on her head.

Season 6, Episode 19 “Lovelines”

By Nerdy Spice

Jen (left, holding a mic) and Joey (right) sit on a couch looking at each other. Jen is smiling and holding Joey's knee; Joey is giving Jen a dubious, somewhat angry look.

This episode is a classic example of that terrible TV phenomenon: “Whoops, we ran out of storylines two episodes before the finale, so we’re going to stick a throwaway episode in here and hope no one notices.” It is pointless, contains a boatload of offensive jokes, and doesn’t have Pacey (or Dawson) in it, so basically, it should not exist.

We’re in the Golden Ages! Joey and Pacey are officially back together, meaning they are unofficially talking about thinking about getting back together, as these characters are wont to do. Continue reading →

Joey and Pacey are seen from the side, sitting very close, facing each other. Joey wears star pajamas, Pacey a gray hoodie, and Joey is wiping Pacey's face with a towel while he rests his hands on top of her thighs.

Audrey starts out this episode by announcing, “I don’t want to go to rehab.” Oh, Audrey. I have a song you’re going to LOVE three years in the future.

Season 6, Episode 10 “Merry Mayhem”

Yay, it’s a Christmas episode! Holiday episodes are always fun, not to mention criminally underused on this show, considering how much built-in drama they provide. And on that front, this episode does not disappoint. Everyone’s families are crazy, their relationships are falling apart at the seams, Audrey is in the middle of a spectacular mental breakdown, and it all devolves into not one, but two truth-telling speeches and massive destruction of property. So, basically it’s Christmas. Continue reading →

Season 6, Episode 7 “Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell”

By Nerdy Spice

Audrey is seen with a microphone in a crowd of people, her mouth open and her eyes closed.

Audrey’s Downward Spiral continues in spectacular fashion in this episode.

What also continues is Joey and Eddie’s never-ending melodrama. Joey is being weirdly “tactful” (read: condescendingly coy) about Hetson’s class, worried that it’ll upset Eddie, but now that they’re all hot and heavy he doesn’t take offense. I guess the making out put him in a better mood. Which is good. Joey, for her part, claims she feels smart now that she’s free of Eddie’s “snarky feedback.” Yes, Joey. It’s called “negging” and it’s designed to make you feel like shit so you’ll make out with him, and it worked, so why bother coming to class anymore?

Season 6, Episode 4 “Instant Karma!”

By Janes

Since this episode is called “Instant Karma,” complete with an exclamation point, I had high hopes that Dawson would actually experience, um–karma–for his dickish behavior as of late. But this is a white man we’re talking about, so it’s more like “vague threat of consequences before everything returns to the status quo.” Continue reading →

The Great Dawson’s Creek Rewatch Project: Season 6, Episodes 1-3

  • Every mention of Pacey’s facial hair.
  • Every time Pacey suddenly becomes a misogynist.
  • Every time Dawson and Joey talk about how much they Hurt Each Other.

Season 5, Episode 22 “The Abby”

By Janes

Screen Shot 2018-09-25 at 11.23.14 AM

I haven’t rewatched this episode in forever, because I have this visceral response to Alex Pearl’s Duane-from-Annie-Hall moment. So there’s a lot that I forgot, and all of it is batshit insane. Professor Wilder comes back?? I had no idea. Joey’s terrible story about her kiss with Dawson got into the school literary magazine?? Ha. There’s no way the literati at Fake-Harvard would even suffer through reading that thing. Creeper actually goes into Joey’s bedroom, closes the door, and gives her a too-long hug? Okay, that’s not actually super shocking for this show, but it’s shocking for all of sane America. At least they don’t make out again, or I would have had to go all Sarah Paulson-circa-Coven on my eyeballs. Continue reading →

Season 5, Episode 19 “100 Light Years From Home”

By Nerdy Spice

So, this was the 100th episode of Dawson’s Creek. When it aired, I still wasn’t yet watching it in real time (it took me till the middle of season 6 to catch on, because I’m very very slow), but I was a major Gilmore Girls fan, and I remember how the WB was just covered in ads for this big event, which turns out to be surprisingly inconsequential: the main story is that the gang-minus-Dawson go to Florida for spring break. (On the other hand, M2M, the underrated gem of the early aughts, shows up and sings. That’s pretty awesome. I’d almost call it event TV.)

OK, fine, there is one thing of significance. Dawson and Joey have a Grand Good-bye! Oh wait… that happens so often that we have a shot for it. So never mind.
