BuffyWatch: Season 2, Episodes 4-6

Season 2, Episode 4 “Inca Mummy Girl”

Buffy and friends go on a field trip to a museum, where they see a 500-year-old mummy. The mummy was supposedly an Incan princess who was sacrificed to the gods as a teenager (cue heavy-handed “Chosen One” parallels). A school bully named Rodney breaks a plate the mummy is holding, and she wakes up and throttles him. Later, the Scooby gang returns to the museum and finds Rodney mummified in the princess’ place. RIP Rodney. 

Buffy’s mom decides to take in an exchange student from South America (yes, they just call it “South America,” without specifying a country) named Ampata, and Xander is all put out because it’s a “man” with “man parts.” Shut up, Xander. (Advance warning: I’ll be saying that a lot this episode.)  Continue reading →

BuffyWatch: Season 2, Episodes 1-3

Season 2, Episode 1: “When She Was Bad”

Buffy stands above a skeleton, holding a sledgehammer,

Buffy comes back from a summer with her dad in LA with a new haircut and a new attitude. Apparently the trauma of dying and being brought back to life in season 1’s premiere has had an effect, and that effect was to turn Buffy rather… chilly. She’s withdrawn from everyone, and even when Angel comes to warn her about the Anointed One, she pretends not to have missed him. Later, she disses Angel at the club in favor of doing a sexy dance with Xander, at which point both Willow and I became convinced that Buffy was actually bewitched. Even Cordelia thinks Buffy’s being a jerk and warns her to get over herself.

Season 1, Episode 10 “Nightmares”

One of my favorite MOW episodes! We start with a random classmate named Wendell, never seen before and never to be seen again, who opens his book in class, only to find a bunch of giant tarantulas crawling out of the pages. The Scooby Gang gets on the case, and finds out that Wendell has a recurring nightmare about spiders attacking him. A bunch of other weird, nightmarish things start happening: Giles gets lost in the stacks of the library, time starts speeding up during Buffy’s history test, and then Xander spontaneously finds himself in his underwear in class.
